Gerald Granville Scheirer's Obituary

Gerald Granville Scheirer 'Jerry', age 86, of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday Oct. 3, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center. Jerry was born in Catasauqua, PA on July 18, 1922, son of the late Harry Granville Elias Scheirer and Elsie Elizabeth Wenner. He worked during his entire career in the wholesale plumbing and heating industry, retiring in 1985 as a manager for Penco Corporation. During WW II he served as a Captain in the US Marine Corps, most notably at Iwo Jima.
He was devoted to his church, Bethel United Methodist Church, Lewes, DE where he sang in the church choir until very recently, served on the administrative board, and as Sunday School Superintendent. For many years he was a member of the Lewes Rotary Club and served on the Board of Education for the Cape Henlopen School District during the time of the formation of the current district. Golfing, bowling, and square dancing were his hobbies as well as being a devoted Phillies and Eagles fan.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Sara L. Jones Scheirer in Sept. 1984 and his second wife Dorothy Barrett Scheirer in July 2002.
His survivors include, daughters Lynn Fulop and husband John of Griffin, GA., Brenda Archer of Lewes, DE., Carol Wright and husband Bob of Lewes, DE and Bev Yingling and husband Dave of Griffin, GA.; brother Roger S. Scheirer of Catasaugua, PA and sisters Joyce Miller of Red Hill, PA. and Carol Mack of Mertztown, PA.; grandchildren, Michael Fulop, Michelle Archer, Mandy Fulop Mulherin, Kyle Archer, Mandy Wright Ford, Cathy Smith Phillips, Katie Wright, Jason Yingling and 6 great grandchildren.
His step family includes Doug and Jan Sentman and their children and Debbie Sentman Spencer and family.
Funeral services will be Thursday October 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Bethel United Methodist Church, W. 4th St. Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial with Marine Corps Honors will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park near Milton, DE. Friends may also call on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins- Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE
