Gerald Patrick Lyons' Obituary
Gerald Patrick Lyons, age 63, of Milton, DE, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born on April 2, 1951 in Washington, DC, son of the late Bernard W. and Francis L. (Shafer) Lyons.
Gerry was a police officer, as well as a hostage negotiator, a career which spanned from Mulvane, KS to Rehoboth Beach, DE. He was a graduate of Wichita State University, holding degrees in History and Forensic Science. Gerry enjoyed Astronomy, working with Wallops Island NASA and the Sussex County Astronomers Society.
After retiring, Gerry and Pat founded the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation. The foundation was established to provide public education through outreach events, as well as working with other organizations.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife, Pat of Milton, DE; his nine children, Dustie Johnson of Howard City, MI; Wayne Skinner of Telaquah, OK; Anna Simpson of Laurel, DE; Katherine Lyons of Milton, DE; Joseph Lyons of Milton, DE; Tonya Lyons of Williamsburg, VA; Sean Lyons of Annapolis, MD; Rebecca-Joy Lyons of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and Shelby-Lynn Lyons of Manhattan, KS; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Susan Kaemmerlen of Kingston, RI.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Midway Baptist Church, 21265 John J. Williams Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation, 124 Starlight Drive, Milton, DE 19968 to carry on Gerry's legacy.
