George W. Wilkins' Obituary
George W. Wilkins, III, age 68, peacefully went home with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Peninsula Regional Hospital.
Mr. Wilkins was born in Philadelphia., PA son of the late George and Marie (Nawn)Wilkins. He proudly served 4 years with the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer U.S.S. Raymond. He was also a lifelong member as a volunteer firefighter for Upper Darby Fire Co. #3. He retired after 35 years of service with the Phildelphia Suburban Water Company. He was also a member of the local American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard, DE and Local 623 International Teamsters. George and his loving wife Joan relocated to Millsboro, DE 6 years ago.
George was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed sports, bowling, fishing, dart leagues and "being" by the ocean. But most of all spending time with family and friends. His delightful sense of humor was ever present. He will be greatly missed.
George was predeceased by his son Robert Butaitis. He is survived by his wife Joan of 42 years; 6 children, William Butaitis, Kathy Johnson and husband John; Joan Gormley and husband Tim; Michelle Doelp; Marie O'Brien and and husband David; George W. Wilkins IV and wife Andrea; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14, 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Parish, Shelborne & Manoa Roads, Havertown, PA. where friends may call one hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post #28, Oak Orchard & Riverdale, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE l9968.
