George Michael Roberts' Obituary
George Michael Roberts
1950 - 2024
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of George Michael Roberts, of Dagsboro, DE, at the age of 74. Born in Reading, PA, in 1950, George grew up as the middle child between two sisters and later became the proud father of three daughters. He passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, after a short battle with cancer, COVID, and pneumonia.
George proudly served in the Navy, and his love for family was a constant throughout his life. He and his beloved wife, Diane, were high school sweethearts, a bond they reaffirmed when they renewed their vows in 2021. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
As a father to Tina, Sheila, and Trisha, father-in-law to Charlie and Doug, and a beloved uncle, George was a source of unwavering support and wisdom. His role as PopPop to his eight grandchildren—Serena, Alyssa, Maddie, Mackenzie, Michael, Justin, Phil, and Izzie—was his greatest pride and joy.
George was the glue that held many friendships together. He embraced life with a laid-back attitude, never one for drama, and always kept things lighthearted and easygoing. His warmth and loyalty made him a beloved friend to many, and his presence was a source of comfort and joy to everyone around him.
George found peace on the water, whether boating or fishing, and embraced life’s simple pleasures. He loved cheering for his favorite NASCAR driver, enjoying football weekends, and spending time with close friends.
After retiring in 2021, George spent his days on his boat, tending to his koi pond, and forming new friendships in his neighborhood. A Celebration of Life will be held at Harpoon Hanna's in Fenwick Island, DE, on Sunday, October 20, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in George’s honor.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, PopPop, uncle, and loyal friend, whose warmth, laughter, and ability to keep friendships strong will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
