George R. McColley's Obituary
George R. McColley, age 94, of Lewes, DE passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Brandywine Senior Living at Seaside Point, in Rehoboth Beach, DE. He was born Thursday, June 2, 1921 in Angola, DE, son of the late George and Maud (Register) McColley.
Mr. McColley was a member of the Lewes High School class of 1939. He proudly served his country with the US Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania studying Business. Following graduation Mr. McColley would embark on a lifelong career as a Collections Agent for the IRS.
Some of Mr. McColley's favorite pastimes were bowling and watching the Philadelphia Phillies play baseball. He was an avid vegetable gardener who seemed to naturally have a green thumb. Mr. McColley would share his bountiful vegetables with friends, family and neighbors.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wilmington Manor, DE. Mr. McColley was a longtime member of the Peninsula-McCabe United Methodist Church in Wilmington and Lewes Presbyterian Church in Lewes.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McColley was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret E. in 1998. He is survived by his son, George T. McColley and his daughter-in-law Wendy of Lewes, DE and two grandchildren, Brett and Megan McColley both of Northern Virginia.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Brandywine Senior Living at Seaside Point for their loving care shown to Mr. McColley and to Vitas Hospice Center during his final days.
