George R. Layton's Obituary
George R. Layton, Sr., age 64, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of Bridgeville, DE passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his home. He was born on July 13, 1950 in Berlin, MD, son of Florence (Jones) Layton and the late Jacob Layton.
Mr. Layton proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. After Mr. Layton's honorable discharge, he started working as an equipment operator for Melvin Joseph Construction in Georgetown, DE. He would later work for many years as a truck driver for Wheatley Farms in Bridgeville, DE then as an equipment operator for David A. Bramble in Chestertown, MD. He retired from David A. Bramble in 2009 after 15+ years of service.
During his spare time, Mr. Layton could be found tinkering in his shop on wood working projects or figuring out the mechanics of a vehicle. He also loved riding his bull dozer and tractor. He was an avid NASCAR fan, who followed his favorite driver, Jimmie Johnson. Mr. Layton was a humorous man who was a jokester at heart and would always have a joke or two to share with his family and friends.
He will be remember as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dear friend by all who knew him.
In addition to his father, Mr. Layton was preceded in death by his brother, James Layton and sister, Jean Niblet. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Barbara Ann (Salmons) Layton of Georgetown, DE; his three sons: George Layton, Jr. and his wife Ashley of Lewes, DE, Donnie Layton of Bridgeville, DE and Jerry Layton and his wife Michelle of Bridgeville, DE; his two daughters: Melody Hayman and her husband Tommy of Laurel, DE and Angie Salmons of Greenwood, DE; his daughter-in-law, Brenda Layton of Laurel, DE; his three brothers: Ronald Layton and his wife Wanda of Millsboro, DE, Francis Layton of Greenwood, DE and Danny Layton of Georgetown, DE; six grandchildren: Damian Bullock, Destiny Hayman, Chad Layton, Dakota Layton, Sarah Layton and Shawn Layton; and three canine friends, Jake, Toby and Bessie.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Market & Laws Streets, Bridgeville, DE.
