George L. Hoffman's Obituary
George L. Hoffman, age 92, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, DE. He was born in Ridley Township, PA, on May 10, 1921, son of the late Charles and Catherine (Miller) Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman honorably served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, France. Following his service, Mr. Hoffman worked for several years at Boldt Anchor in Easton, MD. He would later work for the DuPont Company in Edgemoor, DE, where he would retire after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
He was a NASCAR enthusiast and an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Mr. Hoffman also enjoyed fishing, clamming and crabbing in the Delaware bays. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and a dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary E. (LaRue) Hoffman; three daughters: Janice Carpinelli and husband William of Aston, PA, Sharon Brown and husband Jerry of Swedesboro, NJ and Tracy Hoffman of Frankford, DE; his step-son, Donald Norman and wife Sharon of Dagsboro, DE; his step-daughter, Barbara Shaw and husband Arthur of Manatee, FL; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A gathering and reception will be held at Mrs. Hoffman's residence on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Interment will be private.
Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hoffman's memory to the SPCA, 22918 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947.
