George D. Hitchens' Obituary
George D. Hitchens, age 92, of Ocean View, DE died Tuesday March 29, 2011 at the Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes, DE. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 10, 1918, son of the late Benjamin F. and Rosalie (Tingle) Hitchens.
Mr. Hitchens graduated from Wilmington High School in 1936. He was a veteran of WW II and Korea and later retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service with the US Air Force. Following his military career he worked in civilian life for the United States Government. He and his late wife both served in the Air Force and traveled extensively; they retired together. Mr. and Mrs. Hitchens were very philanthropic and enjoyed being generous to many organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Jacklynn P. Hitchens in 2006; four sisters: Emma Darby, Elsie Stewart, Laura Cherpak, Anne Nyiro; and two brothers Thomas N. Hitchens and Charles D. Hitchens. Mr. Hitchens was the youngest of eight and is survived by his sister Kathryn H. Biscoe of Wilmington, DE; nephews and caregivers Paul T. and Donald B. Hitchens of Rehoboth Beach, DE; caregiver Martha Weldin of Wilmington, DE; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial with full military honors will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
