George has always been a very good neighbor and friend to us. I looked forward to his and my husbands front porch discussions of the world. I will always look for his smiling face coming across the yards. RIP.

I never knew anyone who had as many friends or who deserved them more than Chris.
I grew up directly across the street from Nason’s 21 Roxbury Road house and Chris became the older brother I never had. I have so many childhood memories of stickball, football, basketball, and paddle tennis games. We played with toy guns, sling shots, bottle rockets, and dirt bombs. We ran on the golf course, played hide-and-seek in the Nason’s basement, and watched horror films in the TV room. My mother never worried about me because she knew she could always find me at Nason’s house.
Chris is the reason I’m a NY JETS fan to this day. Back in 1969 we watched Super Bowl III together. Joe Namath became a magical figure in sports that day and we all wore white sneakers and spikes after that which was easy for Chris because he was already a competitive tennis player at Garden City’s Cherry Valley Club.
I regret I will not be to attend Chris’ 5/13 Memorial Service in person because my two youngest daughters are graduating college that same day - but at 4pm I’ll be sure to include a prayer to remind God of what a dependable brother, pilot, and captain he has added to His ranks. Chris and the whole Nason family are much in Gallagher’s thoughts these days.

So sorry for your loss. He was a really great guy. RIP Chris
Cris sir Ian so sorry to hear about your passing. I knew you were special when I first met you. You were the guy that was nice to me. May God bless you my friend. I will miss you Chris.
Chris’s friendship was always steady through all the twists and turns of life or should I say the moody temperaments of the sea. In many respects it defined his character - steady as she goes - and who knows, maybe that mindset led him to a career at sea. From the time I got to know him in high school he was always steady never getting out of control like the rest of us who lacked his self-discipline. I don’t recall Chris ever criticizing someone to their face, but he had this disdainful look he’d give you if you were being silly that was far more effective than words. There was a hint of amusement in that look, as well. Chris was our young adult designated driver long before they became vogue. Although he would sometimes have a few, you could always count on Chris to be relatively sober and in control. He was too responsible to get behind the wheel otherwise and it’s likely he saved a few lives in the process, mine included. In those early days of driving he prided himself on his driving skills which led him to drag racing at the New York International Speedway in Center Moriches in his legendary “Gusmobile.” There were about 10 of us who tagged along to watch the event. I recollect he won a heat or two, but fell short of the top prize. Soon after he donated his car to the local fire department to be incinerated as a firefighting exercise for his HS Fire Patrol. (See photo of his burning car on page 133 of his HS yearbook.) But it was all in good fun and you’d always find Chris where good times and comradery abounded. Lots of great memories which unfortunately will fade with the years as another good friend has left us far too early.
I will always remember him in the chart room of the John W. Brown while underway
