George C. Cox's Obituary
George C. Cox age 82 of Lewes, DE, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center. He was born in Chester, PA, on Thursday, December 15, 1927, son of the late Jesse and Ruth (Howett) Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret "Peg" Cox who passed away in 1975, with whom he had two children and one brother and two sisters.
George proudly served in the US Air Force during WWII in the Occupational Forces in Okinawa.
A resident of Lewes since 1992, George moved from Lancaster, PA, where he retired from Sun Oil Company in Marcus Hooks, PA in 1983. He was a gauger for the oil transporting ships. He was also a member of the Sun Honor Club, a 32nd degree Mason in the Penn Lodge of Malvern, PA.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and considered his two great grandchildren his "treasure". He had a great sense of humor that he shared with those that he met and will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathleen "Kathy" (Romano) Cox, Lewes, DE, one son, Nick Cox and wife Debbie of Oxford, PA, one daughter, Linda Young and husband James of Barto, PA, four grandchildren, Leslie Young of Philadelphia, PA, James Young, Jr. of Dover, DE, Nicole Benzinger and husband Mark of Oxford, PA and Jesse Cox and wife Amie of Milton, DE, two great-grandchildren, Calle & Nick Cox of Milton, DE, one half-sister, Barbara McLeod and husband Bob of Milford, DE., sister-in-law, Imogene Cox of Merced, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Private Services will be held in PA at a later date.
