Gale Lynn Sheriff's Obituary
Gale Sheriff, 79, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her love of life, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her.
A true lover of sunshine and the sea, Gale found joy in the beach, the sound of ocean waves, and the feeling of sand between her toes. She loved seafood, discovering new restaurants, and sharing good meals with family and friends. Her personal mantra, “Live life with no regrets,” reflected the way she embraced every moment with heart and enthusiasm.
Gale especially loved the Christmas season. She enjoyed baking cookies—especially her famous cold dough and pizzelles—and sharing them with family and friends. She found joy in making the holidays special for those around her, filling each gathering with warmth, laughter, and love.
She had a long and proud career as a Jewelry Manager at Walmart and in the catalog department at JCPenney’s. Always beautifully dressed, she had an impeccable sense of fashion and carried herself with grace and confidence.
A woman of community and compassion, Gale served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW, where she gave her time and heart to supporting veterans and their families. Her dedication, kindness, and leadership were felt by all who worked alongside her.
She loved playing cards with family and friends, where her quick wit and playful spirit often made her the life of the game. Gale also cherished the simple pleasures—fishing with her husband, belonging to a bowling league, dancing to her favorite doo-wop songs, and doing thoughtful things for family and friends. Her generous heart and selfless nature touched everyone who knew her.
Her greatest joy, however, came from her family—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure. An animal lover at heart, Gale shared her home and affection with her beloved pets—Dixie, Zoe, and Zeti—who brought her endless comfort and companionship.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Sheriff, her father William Aaron Mort and her mother Lois Emily Cromwell, her brother William Mort Jr., and her sister Karen Metcalf. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Marie Asbury (Darryl) of Smyrna, DE, Vanessa Cooper (Todd) of Lewes, DE, and Ronna Patton (James) of Finleyville, PA. Her grandchildren, Kailyn, Sarah, Lindsey, Rebekka, and Taylor, and her great-grandchildren, Colton, Carmen, Ava, and Charlea.
Her family takes comfort knowing she lived fully and loved deeply—leaving behind a legacy of laughter, memories, and love. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.
