Gail Wingate Johnston, 79, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep, on Monday, September 29, 2014 after a decade long battle with breast cancer. Gail, a Rehoboth Beach native, was born on October 11, 1934 to Berman Paul "Mac" Read Obituary
I am so sorry to hear of Gail's passing. She was at Rehoboth Elementary when I was in kindergarten. I also remember her as librarian in Rehoboth where she had a great influence of the reading selections of many. She will be greatly missed in the community.
My deepest sympathy to all of you on the passing of such a wonderful woman. My fondest memory was helping Gail at the Rehoboth Library in the summer. She had a gift. Summer vacationers (and locals) would come in and browse for books and after a short conversation with Gail, she could tell them just what books they would enjoy. And she was always right. She ran the Library (way before any kind of technology) flawlessly, knowing every number in the Dewey Decimal System, and what books were within that number. Win Goodrich Rosenberg and I were always in awe of her intelligence. Someone with her kindness and intelligence inspired me to have Gail as my son Jay Cameron Wingate's Godmother. She touched so many people's lives.
Jeff, Barry & families. I graduated from RHS in '52 with Gail. I will remember her as loving to play Hearts at any sleep-over we had. She and Lorraine Quillen always had every main female role in all of our plays and did a wonderful job! Lorraine & Gail are together again in the biggest leading role of their existence - in Heaven. Remember Gail with a smile and warm thoughts. I surely will. My deepest sympathy to all of you. God Bless You.
