Frederick "Tom" Shunick's Obituary
Frederick Thomas "Tom" Shunick, age 68, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Westminster, MD and the Baltimore Inner Harbor area, passed away May 22, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center. Mr. Shunick was born January 10, 1941 in Galesburg, IL, son of the late Frederick C, and Elizabeth (Gambell) Shunick.
Mr. Shunick relocated to Delaware in 2005 after 25 years in nursing and administration with the Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He also worked for 12 years in the AIDS unit at Johns Hopkins. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Nursing at St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Tom served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Tom held a Ph.D in Business Administration and he was a gourmet cook.
He is survived by his partner of 37 years, Calvin Hagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert Shunick and his sister Kay Shunick.
