Fred R. Styles' Obituary
Fred R. Styles, age 73, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. He was born October 13, 1938 in Philadelphia PA, son of the late Robert and Clara (Popich) Styles.
Mr. Styles was most patriotic first serving his country with the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard for a total of 21 years of military service. He was employed by Gloucester County College for over 18 years first working in the maintenance department and then with campus security retiring in 2004. Fred and his beloved wife of 48 years relocated from Clayton, NJ to Dagsboro following his retirement.
In his spare time, Fred loved woodworking; he made endless toys, rocking horses and cradles. He often donated his creations to the church or to needy families. Fred was an avid and excitable sports fan rarely missing a Phillies or Eagles game. He loved walking the boards on Bethany Beach. He also enjoyed his morning coffee at Hockers Deli, scratching lottery tickets, and reading the paper. Fred was devoted to his grandchildren and just loved having fun with his family.
Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa V. Styles; a son Ken Styles of Johns Island, SC; two daughters: Sandra Kenny and her husband Paul of Cherry Hill, NJ and Christine Styles of Dagsboro, DE; six grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Meyers and her husband James of Warren Center, PA; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:30 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
