Frank Bruce Gordon's Obituary
Frank Bruce Gordon, age 80, of Georgetown, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 24, 2025. He was born in Chester, Nova Scotia, on Friday, October 27, 1944. His parents were the late Joseph and Ruth (Gold) Gordon.
Frank was a 1962 graduate of Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD. As a young man, he enjoyed working with his father at the family business, Frank’s Liquors, but soon found an attraction to the electrical trade. At the age of 19, Frank joined IBEW Local 26 in Washington as an apprentice, which blossomed into 43 years of employment as a journeyman electrician. Frank was a loyal union brother and was honored with a 60-Year Service Pin in 2024 from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Frank liked sports, including coaching Little League baseball, following his favorite Green Bay Packers, and spending time with his family. For the last four years, Frank enjoyed wintering in Arizona with his companion and best friend, Judy Collins. What Frank loved most, though, was helping neighbors and friends with electrical problems or projects, where he could share his knowledge in true friendship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Betty (McCaughey) Gordon. They made their home for 33 years in Owings, MD, before moving to Georgetown, DE, in 2015. Frank is survived by four sons: Richard Gordon (Wendy) of Princess Anne, MD; Christopher Gordon of Columbia, MD; Scott Gordon of Port Republic, MD; and Ryan Gordon (April) of Centreville, MD. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
No story of Frank’s life would be complete without noting that he was a “Butterbox Baby,” a fortunate survivor of the Ideal Maternity Home in Nova Scotia, Canada. Miraculously, after 73 years of separation, Frank was reunited with his birth mother, Marion (McIntyre) MacPhail, in Prince Edward Island, along with cousins and extended members of his McIntyre family. Frank and Marion enjoyed two precious years together before her passing in 2020.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the clubhouse of the Village of Cinderberry , 19 Cinder Way, Georgetown, DE.
In lieu of flowers, cards of condolence and remembrance may be sent to 2 Castleberry Lane, Georgetown, DE 19947.
