Frank G. Corey's Obituary
Frank G. Corey, age 94 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Dec. 26, 2009 at Cadbury at Lewes, Lewes, DE. Mr. Corey was born in Carnegie, PA, son of the late George Corey and Mary (Tony) Corey. As a young man Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army. Shortly thereafter in 1941, he would travel abroad where he served in General Patton’s 1st Army, 13TH Armored Division. Following many tours during World Word II, in 1945 Frank returned to Washington, D.C. decorated with many service metals and a Bronze Star. This same year, after a 3-year wait, Frank finally married the love of his life “Elley.”
In 1970, after 25-years of service with the U.S. Government, U.S. Information Agency (USIA), Frank retired and pursued his love of gardening and golf. Eleanor often teased him that he loved golf more than her but at the end of the day he was the best husband. Frank was a charter member of The Rehoboth Beach Country Club joining in 1965 and played golf every Tuesday and Thursday through age 89. Frank was also a self-taught sculptor who won many Blue Ribbons and awards for his work. Frank was a gentleman with a gentle soul, he loved his many nieces and nephews, his parents, and especially his one and only true love “Elley.”
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by five siblings: Art Corey, Alex Corey, John Corey, Betty Higgins and Kay Deratany. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor P. (Pearson) Corey; brother: Richard Corey and wife Eleanor of Vero Beach, FL; sister: Marge Terry and husband Leo of Dewey, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 11:00 AM, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Interment will immediately follow at Delaware Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. A Memorial Reception will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958 or to All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
