Frances Myers Moore's Obituary
Frances Myers Moore, age 97 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at her home. She was born Friday, August 20, 1920 in Fairport, OH, daughter of the late Frank B. and Esther W. Small.
Fran was born in Fairport Harbor into a Coast Guard family. The Smalls family lived in various states, transferring stations until their last assignment brought them to Lewes, Delaware at the Cape Henlopen Station. She and her sister Jean would walk from Lewes, on the beach, to Rehoboth, to buy candy. Fran graduated from Rehoboth High School in 1937.
Fran was known for her years of employment with Braunstein's, Rehoboth's first department store. She loved her work and served as a manager for most of her time there. Even into her 90s, people would still recognize her as the "Braunstein's Lady". She was kind to everyone she met and really enjoyed working on the avenue even after Braunstein's closed.
Fran was active in her community. She was a member and past president of the Miss Delaware Scholarship Program. She and other local members enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City for the final pageant. Fran was also active in the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and served as secretary of the St. Boniface Women's Chapter of the Episcopal Church.
In her spare time, Fran enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league into her late 70's. She also enjoyed traveling, and with her sister Jean, visited many countries in Europe. However, her favorite destination was Colonial Williamsburg. Her first visit was in the early 1980's and she thereafter visited about three times a year during the different seasons. On a spur of the moment trip, she was able to attend the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown.
In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her husband, of forty nine years, Arthur Dalton Myers and her husband Maurice Moore; and her sisters, Jean Small Millar and Rebecca Small Lemaire. She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Munson and Karen Myers; her grandchildren: Cynthia Munson Roberts; Leith Munson (Kara), Marianne Munson Amaro (Nathan), Amy Munson Rakeshaw (Greg), Arthur Munson, William Munson (Christine), Nathan Myers (Keleigh); nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Frank B. Small, Jr. (Ginny).
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
