Florence Ethel Schmeck's Obituary
Florence Schmeck, age 86, of Lewes, DE formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully at her residence, Cadbury at Lewes on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. She was born in Lancaster, PA on July 17, 1925, daughter of the late Frank and Sallie (Hehnly) Wenger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Charles Wenger.
Mrs. Schmeck graduated from East Lampeter High School in 1943. After graduation she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance in Lancaster, PA. She continued her friendship with the “Metro Girls” up until two years ago when she suffered a stroke and moved to Lewes, DE with her daughter, Donna Floyd.
She was an amazing woman who loved life and never met a stranger. A talented artist with leather, sewing and many crafts. She was very active in her church, Jerusalem United Church of Christ, transferring to Lewes Presbyterian, after moving to Delaware.
An athlete all her life, she enjoyed skiing, bowling and long walks. She was an accomplished hunter, marksman, and loved fishing. She had two motorcycles and went on long trips with other bikers. After giving up her bike at age 70, she rode on the back of her daughter’s Harley.
She traveled with her husband Marvin Schmeck and daughter to Wyoming, Alaska, Arizona and Florida. She took bus tours all around the USA with her aunt, Dorothy Wenger.
She was visited the day before she passed away by her great niece Suzette Crandall, husband Rob and their children Logan and Brody. They had a wonderful time and enjoyed lunch together. God was so good to her and she was faithful to Him.
Mrs. Schmeck is survived her daughter Donna Floyd and husband Pete of Lewes, DE and by her brother Paul Wenger and his wife Gerry of Ronks, PA.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date in Lancaster County, PA.
