Florence Young Kirby's Obituary
Florence Young Kirby, age 100, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Oakmont, Pennsylvania, died on August 6, 2023.
Florence was born in Verona, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1922, to Arthur J. Young and Olive Condron Young. She worked for several years as a Payroll Clerk for Ingalls Ironworks Company in Verona, PA. While working there she met the love of her life, William A. Kirby, to whom she had been married for 75 years.
As a mother and homemaker, Florence was active in the Oakmont United Presbyterian Church and volunteered for school activities, and scouts. After moving to Rehoboth Beach, Florence enjoyed bowling in a senior league. She volunteered for 25 years at the Information Desk and Gift Shop of the Beebe Medical Center and was an active member of the Lewes Presbyterian Church. After moving to Florida to live with her daughter and son-in-law, she enjoyed reading Christian novels and watching sports, game shows, and westerns on television.
Florence is survived by her daughter Susan DiIorio (Jim), and son William J. Kirby, 4 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William A. Kirby, her siblings Charles Frederick Young, her twin Arthur James Young, Jr., Jane Young Barr, George Condron Young, and her great grandson James Shannon.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Lewes Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway. Lewes, DE 19958.
