Florence Hackett's Obituary
Florence Hackett passed away peacefully at her home in Rehoboth Beach, DE, on Friday, May 7, 2010 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born September 7, 1915, in Akron, OH, daughter of the late John and Lillian (Steiner) Ban.
Mrs. Hackett graduated from Garfield High School, Akron, in 1933. She married the love of her life, Richard, in 1937. The family relocated to Rehoboth Beach in 1954. Mrs. Hackett enjoyed a 33 year long career at the Dinner Bell Inn working her way up from a hostess to hotel manager. She was listed in the, “Who’s Who of American Women” (1975-1976 edition). She was a charter member of both the Rehoboth Beach League of Women Voters and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Hackett was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Richard W. Hackett; son, Richard N. Hackett; and sister, Elaine Ban. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Hackett of Rehoboth Beach, DE; daughter, Elaine Hackett Ruttle and husband John of Alburtis, PA; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hackett of Rehoboth Beach, DE; sister, Lillian Mitchell of Deerfield Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren: Richard Hackett of Lewes, DE, Jacob Ruttle of Bethlehem, PA, Robin Ruttle of Boston, MA, and Nicole Hackett of Laurel, DE; 2 nieces and nephew: William Bailey of Coral Springs, FL, Nancy Leonetti of Tampa, FL, and Marcia Favell of Tampa, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, 2:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 801 Bayard Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; Meals on Wheels, 32409 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958; or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
