Florence M. Desmond's Obituary
Florence M. Desmond, age 93, passed away January 21, 2009 in Cherry Hill, NJ of congestive heart failure. She was born January 12, 1916 in Wilmington, DE. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Desmond, Sr. and daughter of John P. and Nellie A. Malcom.
Florence is survived by her children Jack Desmond and his wife Maryann of Hillsborough, NJ; Maureen Meloche and her husband Mike of Cherry Hill, NJ; and Neil Desmond his wife Geri of Ruxton, MD; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her great granddaughter Katie Sagedy.
Florence was a graduate of Usuline Academy and Goldey Beacom Business School. She retired from teaching at St. Peter's Cathedral School in Wilmington in 1979, having previously taught at Corpus Christi Elsmere. She was a lector at St. Peter's Cathedral and served on the parish councils at both St. Edmond's and St. Peter's Cathedral.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 24, 2:00 PM, at St. Edmond's Roman Catholic Church, King Charles & Laurel Streets, Rehoboth Beach, DE with a viewing on Saturday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Benedictine Sisters, 14259 Benedictine Lane, Ridgley , MD 21660.
