Evelyn G. Gardiner's Obituary
Evelyn G. (Andrews) Gardiner, age 78, of Lewes DE formerly of Linwood, PA died peacefully at her residence on Saturday, October 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Luke and Gladys (Roth) Andrews, Evelyn was born in Ridgely, MD and was later raised in Eddystone, PA.
Evelyn was a longtime Crossing Guard in Lower Chichester, PA until she retired. When she moved to Lewes, DE in 1996 she worked at Roses department store and Lowes before retiring in 2009. Evelyn enjoyed watching the Phillies, collecting teapots, playing Bingo and spending time with friends and family. Her love of the Phillies can only be outdone by her love for family. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
Evelyn had fond memories of spending time in Oxford, MD, family cross country trips, summer days at White Sands Swim Club, vacationing in Wildwood, NJ and watching the Phillies at Veterans Stadium.
Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband William H. Gardiner, her son John Gardiner, her brothers Thompson Andrews, William Andrews, and Luke Andrews, her sister Odella Davis, and sister-in-law Catherine Archdeacon.
Evelyn is survived by her children Glenn Gardiner (Jaimie), Christopher Gardiner, and Donna Gardiner, and her stepsons Paul Gardiner (Pat), William Gardiner, and Steve Gardiner. She is also survived by her brother Robert Andrews (Jean), and sisters-in-law Guila Andrews, Barbara White (Joseph), and brother-in-law Richard Gardiner (Agnes). Evelyn also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 22 nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Gizmo.
Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, October 26 from 6 to 8 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held on Friday, October 28, 11 AM at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, PA with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-016.
