Evelyn R. Bennett's Obituary
Evelyn R. Bennett, age 85, of Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at her second residence in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Mrs. Bennett was raised in Baltimore where she spent most of her life; she graduated from Forest Park High School and began a lifelong career dedicated to caring for others. As a licensed nurse and licensed nursing home administrator she owned and operated Arlington West Nursing and Rehabilitation Center formerly Haven Nursing Home, Inc. in Baltimore, MD for over 40 years. Following retirement, Mrs. Bennett enjoyed volunteering countless hours at the Tuttle Elementary School and actively participating in her community of Oakwood Manor in Sarasota, FL. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren and of the Bodkin Yacht Club, both in Baltimore. She enjoyed traveling, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, the beach, and lounging at the pool, but most of all she enjoyed the time and memories she shared with her family and friends. Mrs. Bennett was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, Beach Grandmother, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilford G. Bennett Jr. in 1981 and her second husband, Albert R. Bennett in 2001. She is survived by her son Richard G. Bennett M.D. and his partner Andrew C. Frake of Baltimore, MD; two sisters: Ethel McDaniel of Richmond, VA and June Andes of Mt. Airy, MD; a brother, Paul Crizer of Ellicott City, MD; five “Beach Grandchildren”: Aaron, Abbey, Ashley, Anthony and Austin Macha; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013, from 3:00P.M. to 6:00P.M. at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, Inc. 6500 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Bennett’s memory may be made to the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Attn: Samuel Durso M.D., John R. Burton Pavilion, 5505 Hopkins Bayview Circle, Baltimore, MD 21224.
