I will never forget Dr Godfrey. Our newborn daughter was a patient of his back in August 1969 immediately after she was born. During this time my husband was serving in the army in Vietnam. Our daughter was around 3 weeks old when she choked while I was giving her vitamins, turned blue, and almost died. Living with my mother since my husband was in Vietnam, she called Dr Godfrey’s office. He told her to have me breath in Michelle’s mouth and he would be right over to the house. He came and checked her out. She was okay then, but I was very upset. During the next 2 weeks I received a letter with pictures of my wounded husband in the mail. His head was bandaged. I had an appointment with Dr Godfrey for my daughter the following week and broke into tears. I asked him if there was anyway to get my husband,Tom, home from Vietnam early. He had 2 months to serve yet. He said he can’t promise anything but he would call the Red Cross. By the following Monday I got a call from Dr Godfrey and I’ll never forget his words. He said “what do you want to hear, good or bad”. I said good, of course. Then he said he will be home soon. Within 2 days I got a call from my husband who was in California on his way home. I have been forever grateful to Dr Godfrey. My husband Tom and I are now married 53 years and our daughter, Michelle, will be 52 years old this year. Our son, Bill, also a patient of his will be 50 this year. Our daughter also had a special problem at 5 years old. By then, Dr Godfrey left Allentown Osteopathic and was in Lancaster. I called him to make an appointment for her and he was so kind. He had us to his home in Lancaster for dinner and a very nice social time. He would not take payment from us. We always considered him a friend and will remember him always. I believe my husband came home safe because of our friend Dr Godfrey. RIP dear Doctor. You were a wonderful, caring human being.
