Eugene "Gene" Melchiorre Jr.'s Obituary
Eugene Melchiorre Jr., age 90 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away at home in his sleep on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. He was born on July 2, 1932, in Chester, PA, son of the late Eugene and Anna (DiPietro) Melchiorre.
A proud veteran, Mr. Melchiorre served his country in the United States Army. He joined the Army in May 1953 and was stationed in Austria in November 1953 with the Army's 350th Infantry Regiment. After his honorable discharge, he started working in the retail industry, and following his retirement, he worked for Bob's Bikes in Rehoboth Beach. On May 24, 1958, Mr. Melchiorre married the love of his life, Dolores J. Melchiorre, and together they enjoyed 65 beautiful years. Mr. Melchiorre was an avid outdoorsman, who at every opportunity presented, enjoyed camping, fishing, and relaxing with his friends and family. He truly treasured time spent with those he held most dear above all. As a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, his presence will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melchiorre was predeceased by his son, James Melchiorre, and his brother, Frank Melchiorre. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores J. (DeMaio) Melchiorre; his son, Eugene Nick Melchiorre; his sisters: Caroline Melchiorre, and Anna Taylor; and his brother, Patrick Melchiorre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
