Eugene Davis' Obituary
Eugene S. Davis, age 82, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was born December 20, 1929, son of the late Floyd and Sadie (Showe) Davis.
Mr. Davis enjoyed a lifelong career with the Navy as a Machinist Mate retiring in 1966. As a Navy man, he had the good fortune and opportunity to visit 78 countries; he loved travelling the world. Whenever he was out to sea, he wrote daily letters to his beloved wife "Midge." Following his Navy retirement, Eugene drove 11 years for the Henry J. Knott Company in Baltimore.
He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens; he coached little league football for the Optomists Club in Baltimore for many years. Eugene was a grand storyteller and jokester who started each day by reading his morning paper from front to back. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence "Midge" Davis; two sons: Douglas Davis and wife Tori of Tampa, FL and Jeffrey Davis and wife Kimberly of Aberdeen, MD; a daughter, Alicia Davis of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren: Heather, Tony, Jessica and Gregory; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Patricia Bounds of Granite, MD. Eugene's beloved German Shephard, "Misty," preceded him in death and was afffectionately referred to as Eugene's fourth child.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 3:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE; the Rev. Dr. Frank S. Demming will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Safe Haven, P. O. Box 430, Nassau, DE 19969.
