I knew and admired Emmalane, as we sang in the Epworth Choir together. She was always so stylish - a real lady. Yes, it was known that she loved to dance. My Daughter and I met her at the Annual Sundance event 5 years ago, and I was totally surprised she would like that particular event, as it is more disco - loud with strobe lights - and very crowded. She didn't do much dancing, but enjoyed sitting and watching everyone. It was nice sharing that with her. She was amazing, and will be missed. Carolyn Cattafi

As part of her 'tenant family' I spent two or three weeks every year in the apartment over Emmalane's garage. Her rolling up the door to back out the car for church always woke me on Sunday mornings. What I remember most is she was always smiling and happy. Even when I heard her fall in the garage and took her to Beebe ER bleeding from a head wound, she was cheerful, didn't want any fussing...and ate a big bowl of chili from Bob Evans afterwards.
From the time I was a child spending time with family in Dewey Beach, I remember stopping to look in her fish pond on my way to the boardwalk with a dime to ride the merry-go-round. I will always remember her checking on that darn leak in the fish pond to her last days.
We always took a lighted goose with us to Emmalane's and she and I named him Sam, after her father. If Sam was lit in the window above the garage, the Buters and Dugans were in the apartment. I'll light Sam on my screen porch at home, Emmalane, so you can see him from above. I will miss you and will sadly bid goodbye to a great, fun chapter in my life. Nancy Butler

Although I, too, am a Ewing, we were not related but as Choir friends from Epworth Emmalane, Nancy Hecker, and I shared many trips together over the years when our old bodies were in better shape -- including England, Ireland, Monaco and the French Riviera, Alaska, as well as a wonderful 2-week cruise on the Queen Mary II to the Bahamas. We always had a barrel of laughs no matter where we were headed. Too bad these old bodies wear out. But I know Emmalane is up in heaven and having a wonderful time with those saints who have gone before her. Thinking of you, dear Friend! --

Recently, my husband Dale and I enjoyed visiting Emmalane with our black standard poodle, George. She was a sweet lady and full of stories. She lived an interesting and full life. Emmalane was a blessing to many people who knew her.

My family adored and loved Emmalane! She was full of joy and laughter and loved to travel! My grandparents were great friends with her after moving to Rehoboth in 1974. Emmalane and my Grandmother were in the DAR together & my sister and I started working for her at her Surfside Grille the summer after our eighth and ninth grade school years in the mid-70s. We continued to work summers at her Surfside Grille through our college years. We exchanged Christmas cards every year and continued to visit Emmalane on trips to Rehoboth Including our last visit with her winter 2018. Our grown children have fond memories of stopping by to visit Emmalane and her front yard fishpond. We even rented one of her apartments above the Grille in June 1993 . We collectively as a family got to visit with Emmalane when she attended my grandmother‘s 100th birthday party in December 2016. She was always full of happiness and laughter.
