Elmer L. Brown's Obituary
Elmer L. Brown, age 89, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was born on December 3, 1932, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Britton E. and Edna G. (Leizear) Brown.
Mr. Brown was born and raised in a family of twelve children and often shared stories of growing up with his brothers and sisters. He met and married the love of his life, Joyce Kittle, and the two would raise a beautiful family together. As a young man, he bravely answered the call to serve his country in the US Army and US Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, his career path led him to a twenty-three-year career with Sun Life Insurance as a sales agent. Desiring a change of pace, he left Sun Life and began a twelve-year career as a driver for UPS. He was an active member of the Rehoboth Beach VFW, Post 7447 and the American Legion Post 5. An avid runner, he was formerly a member of the Seashore Striders, running marathons in Lewes and Baltimore, MD. He frequently enjoyed a good game of pinochle with his card playing friends, but above all else, he loved taking care of his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his eleven siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of seventy years, Joyce L. Brown; his son, Mark F. Brown (Donna) of Lewes, DE; his daughter, Pamela A. Monetti (Phillip) of Severn, MD; his granddaughter, Kristie A Hazel; his grandson, Marshall L. Brown; and his great-grandsons: Robert and Brady Hazel.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Lutheran Church of our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Rd., Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Chapel Committal Services will be held at a later date.
