Ellen Treem's Obituary
Ellen Treem, 76, of Bethany Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, DE, surrounded by her children.
Born on September 10, 1948, in Suffern, NY, Ellen was the daughter of the late Harold and Marilyn (Bloom) Ornoff. She spent her formative years in Maryland, graduating from Western High School before earning her degree from the University of Maryland.
A lover of plants, flowers, and nature, Ellen owned and operated a landscaping business for many years. More recently, she worked at the Inland Bays Garden Center where she was able to apply her passion for weeding and designing decorative flower pots. Everywhere she lived, Ellen built bountiful and beautiful spaces that were enjoyed by friends, family, and the surrounding community.
Ellen was a devoted animal lover, and briefly served as a docent for the Maryland Zoo’s Zoomobile program which brought rodents and reptiles into local schools. She found great joy in traveling, and late in life developed a connection to the rainforest region of Costa Rica – which she was able to share with her grandchildren. Ellen's kind heart extended to all living things, especially the dogs she cared for: Ralph, Blanche, Belle, Porterfield, Lucy, Gus, Teapot, Kettle, and Tater.
Ellen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her children: daughter Toby Treem Guerin (Patrick), and sons Isaac Treem (Katie) and Jeffrey Treem (Emily Sandberg). She was a proud and loving Bubby to Noah Guerin, Adam Guerin, Benjamin Treem, and Samuel Treem, whose lives she touched with warmth, support, and laughter.
The family welcomes all who knew and loved Ellen to join them for Shiva on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Temple Isaiah, 12200 Scaggsville Road, Fulton, MD 20759, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with a short memorial service beginning at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen’s memory may be made to the Delaware Food Bank, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, DE 19702, https://fbd.org, or Days End Farm Horse Rescue, 1372 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD 21797, https://defhr.org/donate/ —two organizations that Ellen supported.
