Ellen Nofer Sinclair's Obituary
Ellen Nofer Sinclair, devoted mother, friend, sister, daughter, and wife, died unexpectedly at the age of 58, on Monday, March 13th, 2023. Born in 1964 in Abington, PA, she was the youngest of four children of Anne & George Nofer.
Growing up in Upper Moreland and Abington, Ellen was joyful, energetic, and a gifted athlete, already exhibiting the impish grin and independent spirit which were hallmarks of her sparkling personality for the rest of her life. She graduated from Abington High School in 1982 and Susquehanna University in 1986. Later, Ellen received a Master’s in education and also achieved ABD status. She started her professional life as a paralegal, then taught elementary school for many years in the Great Valley School District, where she was acclaimed for her dedication to her students and where she developed many lasting friendships. After her move to Delaware, Ellen worked for Beebe Family Practice, King Street Row, and most recently Cape Henlopen School District, Sussex Consortium, continuing her enthusiasm for working directly with children. She was a remarkably fun-loving person who was passionate about singing, the beach, dogs, and her Christian faith. A special joy in Ellen’s life was her participation in the Camp Rehoboth Chorus and in their smaller, select ensemble. She loved people, drew them in with her smile, and soon became their life-long friend. A bright star in many people’s lives went out when Ellen passed. She believed fervently in and supported many causes, including Rehoboth Art League, Wounded Veterans, and the Humane Society.
Ellen’s devotion to her family was central to her life, including to her parents, her son, Liam, her husband, Leo, and her best friend, Wendi Schirvar, who was like a sister to her. She is survived by many friends and family who loved her dearly.
A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18th, at 1:00pm, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
