Ellen M. Brown, age 80, of Milton, DE, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, DE, died at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE on Friday April 11, 2008, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Ellen was born on May 20, 1927, in Lewes, DE, daughter of the late Delbert D. Moore and Catherine(Wilson)Moore(Joseph). She attended Rehoboth School before graduating from Lewes High School in 1945.
Mrs. Brown had worked as a secretary with Raymond E. Wilson & Sons Plumbing where she met her husband John L. Brown. Then she worked for Allen Kirkpatrick Seafood. Ellen and her husband owned Mobile Flame Bottled Gas Company from 1953 to 1967. She also was employed as a head teller with Sussex Trust Company in Rehoboth Beach, retiring after 17 years of service.
After her husband John retired from the City of Rehoboth Beach, Ellen co-founded a ground maintenance business with him, known as E. B. Services, until Sept. 2007. Ellen also worked for the Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce as the lobby and telephone representative, greeting visitors and business owners with her wonderful smile. She also assisted with the Rehoboth Aide Society from it's inception in the 1960's.
Ellen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Aside from spending time with her family, she enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music, yard work, shopping, and word puzzles and doting on her beloved granddaughter, Dawn.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Lewis Brown who died in Dec. 2007; her step-father Harold R. Joseph, and brother John R. Moore. She is survived by her Daughter-Barbara B. Dennis and husband Woodrow of Milton, Del., Granddaughter-Dawn E. Crouch of Milton, Del., Brother-Clarence W. Joseph & wife Susan of Bear, Del., Sister-Laura Mae Hopkins & husband John A. , Jr. of Harbeson, DE; sister-in-law Doris Townsend and husband John; sister-in-law Eleanor Semans and friend Frank Rothermal; & sister-in-law Betty Lou Brown, all of Milford, DE; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway One, Lewes, DE on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Baker officiating, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will be at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Contributions may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
