Elizabeth Louis Dixon's Obituary
Elizabeth Louis Chew Englebach Dixon passed away at the age of 94 on March 19, 2025, in Harbeson, DE. Some would say she was a feisty one who lived and died unapologetically on her own terms. They are not wrong. She was truly one of a kind .
Born on July 17, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Emma and Edward Chew. Elizabeth graduated from Springfield Township High School in Oreland, PA. She was married to James R. Englebach from 1954-1997. In 1965 they moved from Flourtown, PA to Rock Hall, MD with her parents where they raised their three children. Liz later moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE where she remarried to Howard (Ed) Dixon in 1998.
Elizabeth was a beloved school bus driver for Kent Co. MD Public Schools where she served several generations of families. And later drove a bus for Sussex County, DE. She was also a certified Water Safety Instructor from 1949-1998. As a Life Member of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), she proudly became the first Lady of Harley in the Seaford Chapter. An avid reader, she also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and playing Parcheesi and Scrabble. Elizabeth was known for her volunteering efforts at the ECW Thrift Shop and her constant presence in the kitchen during coffee hour. Her warm and outgoing nature made her a beloved figure in the community. From the outlets to the Giant in Long Neck, Elizabeth knew everyone, and everyone knew her.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, her first husband James R. Englebach, her second husband Ed Dixon, her son Mark Englebach, and granddaughters Cirsten Englebach and Elizabeth Scolastico.
She is survived by a daughter, Joal Coast of PA, a son, Jon Englebach (Anne) of NC. Ten grandchildren, Matthew Englebach, Amber Englebach, Holly Dodson, and Sarah Banda of MD; Jay Englebach, Lukas Englebach, Leah Turner, and Sam Englebach of NC; Emily Englebach of TN and Kristle Guitar of SC. Additionally, she leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was also dearly loved by her honorary daughter, Marilyn Pitts of DE.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. George’s Chapel, 20271 Beaver Dam Rd, Harbeson, DE, followed by a 11:00 AM funeral service at the same location. A luncheon reception will follow in the Church Hall.
