Elizabeth Wright Carter's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty, "Cartie") Wright Carter of Lewes passed away Friday, September 13th at Beebe Medical Center. She was born in NYC, NY, February 11, 1918, daughter of the late Charles Lennox and Elizabeth Steen Wright. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Saulsbury Carter, Jr., in 2002 and her three sisters, Charlotte Arnold, Catherine Uhl and Louise Sumrell.
Betty grew up in Bayside, NY and attended the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. She was a member of the Lewes Historical Society for 51 years, served as a docent at the Burton-Ingram house for many years, and was co-chair of the Christmas House Tour for about twenty years. For 57 years she was a member of the Sussex Gardeners and received numerous prizes for her flower arrangements. She volunteered at the Children's Beach House, was a member of the First Town Club of Lewes, a Life Member of the Lewes Yacht Club and a member of the Colonel David Hall Chapter of the D.A.R. for 61 years.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Holly Carter Clark and her husband, Paul, of Maple Glen, PA and her son, Frank (Nick) Saulsbury Carter III and his wife Laura (Laurie) of Lewes; her five grandchildren, Peter Clark, Heather (Bill) Allred, Meredith (Mike) Zinkand, Frank Carter IV, and Anne Carter; five great grandchildren, Will and Kelly Allred, Molly, Charlotte and Lyla Zinkand.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2nd St., Lewes, DE where friends may visit beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
Family and friends may also visit on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Lewes Historical Society, 110 Shipcarpenter Street, Lewes, DE 19958, the Lewes Yacht Club Foundation, PO Box 2, Lewes, DE 19958, or a charity of your choice.
