Eleanor Virginia Kent's Obituary
Eleanor V. Kent, age 95 of Dover, DE, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022. She was born on September 4, 1927, in Westminster, MD, daughter of the late John L. and Charlotte Mae (Whiting) Woodyard.
Mrs. Kent had an unparalleled work ethic and worked many jobs on her quest for higher education. She attended Virginia State College (now called Virginia State University), graduating with honors and earning a Bachelor of Science degree. During this time, Mrs. Kent pledged Delta Sigma Theta Inc., Alpha Eta Chapter. After completion of her undergraduate studies, she moved to the small town of Cambridge, Maryland. Mrs. Kent was hired and taught shorthand and typing at St. Clair High School and later at Mace’s Lane High School. During this time, she met an attractive man, teacher, and her future life partner, George R. Kent. On March 24, 1951, Mrs. Kent married the love of her life and together they enjoyed many years and raised a beautiful family. In 1955, she continued her quest for higher education and attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned a M.A. degree in Education. She was later hired as an instructor at Delaware Technical Community College. Mrs. Kent was dedicated to Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and was a founding member of the Cambridge Alumnae Chapter, chartered on April 18, 1952. Her devotion to her family, however, took precedence above all, and the time spent with those she held dear was what she cherished most. Mrs. Kent was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Robert Kent; and her daughter, Terri D. Kent. She is survived by her son, George M. Kent; her four grandchildren: Tiye Womack, Malcom Womack, George Kent, and William Kent; her great-grandchild, Keillan Adegoye; her sisters: Kuline Miller, Angalean Costley, and Irene Brown; and her many nieces and nephews.
