Eleanor R Kardash's Obituary
Eleanor Kardash, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born to the late Harry and Eleanor Wittmer Rieck on August 21, 1922.
Eleanor, the firstborn of nine children, grew up on the family farm in Preston, Maryland where she was active in school sports. After high school, she attended Washington College. It was there that she met Mike Kardash, who she married in 1940. Mike’s career took the young couple around the United States. They lived in the Carolinas, Baltimore, Seattle, Lancaster, Hagerstown, and settled in New Castle, Delaware. The moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1977 and became founding members of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
Eleanor enjoyed traveling, visiting much of North American and the world including two trips to Russia. She loved music and served as the organist and choir leader at her church. She was active in congregational life serving on many boards and committees, leading bible study, and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Sand Dollars. She was the historian and librarian for her church and also volunteered at Farnhurst Mental Hospital. Eleanor loved reading, crafting, and cooking.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Michael, and her two sons, Robert and Thomas. She is survived by her brother, Victor; her sister Ester; her daughter-in-law, Janis; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Rd, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, at the address listed above.
