Edwin Bailey Perry Jr.'s Obituary
Edwin Bailey Perry Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Lewes, Delaware, at the age of 87. Born on January 6, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Edwin was a man whose life was marked by dedication, love, and a remarkable zest for life.
After graduating from McDonogh High School in 1955, Edwin furthered his education at Lehigh University, where he earned both a bachelor's degree and an engineering degree. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career at Alcoa, where he served in senior management for three decades. Edwin's professional acumen was further recognized when he took on the role of President at the RBCC, where he led with integrity and vision.
Edwin's contributions to his community were numerous. As a 32nd degree Mason, he was a respected member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge in Lewes, Delaware. His commitment to service and excellence was evident in every aspect of his life, including his passion for beekeeping. Edwin took great pride in his last harvest, yielding an impressive 52 pounds of honey, a testament to his skill and dedication to the craft.
Family was the cornerstone of Edwin's life. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Elaine Cynthia Perry, and their devoted children: daughter Elizabeth Ross and her husband Frank of Coconut Creek, Florida; daughter Marian Sundstrom and her husband Geoff of Lewes, Delaware; and son David C. Perry and his wife Tina, also of Lewes, Delaware. Edwin's legacy continues through his cherished granddaughters, Jordan Perry and her significant other Doug McGirk of Magnolia, Delaware; Alec Goglio and her husband Mark of Tampa, Florida; Lindsey Donovan and her husband Casey of Milford, Delaware; and grandsons Frank Ross Jr., Robert Ross and Michael Alonso. His great-grandchildren, Ryann Perry, Rylee Donovan, and Calder Goglio will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's love and kindness. Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Edwin Bailey Perry Sr. and Marian Grace Perry.
Edwin was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid golfer, a lover of swimming, and had a deep appreciation for science and gardening. His ability to dance the waltz with grace and elegance was matched only by his prowess in the kitchen as a brilliant chef. Edwin's love for German Shepherd dogs was well known, and he delighted in showing them at nursing homes, bringing joy to many. As a member of the choir at Conley's United Methodist Church, his voice was a testament to his faith and love for music. In his younger years, Edwin's competitive spirit shone through in his wrestling endeavors, a sport he approached with the same dedication he applied to all areas of his life.
Those who knew Edwin would describe him as loving, kind, and generous. His warm presence and the genuine care he had for those around him were the hallmarks of his character. Edwin's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of his passions, his achievements, and most importantly, the love he shared with his family and friends.
