Edwin Fielding Browne's Obituary
Edwin (Ed) Fielding Browne, 92, of Milton, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Cadia Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro, DE.
Ed was born on June 2, 1932, in Queens, NY, He was the son of the late Edwin and Ida (Henthorn) Browne. He spent most of his adult years living in New Jersey; moving to Delaware, 20 years ago, in 2004.
He was a union carpenter in Queens before being drafted into the US Army. He honorably served in the Korean War with the 712th Army Engineer Company, while also serving as the company newspaper editor. After the military, he graduated with a BS degree in Economics from Hofstra University and an MBA from New York University.
His early career involved MIS consulting and management with several banking institutions and large accounting firms in NYC. A significant part of his life was spent working domestically and internationally as a software engineer and Executive for ITT World Headquarters in information security and crisis management. Later he was a corporate auditor for New Jersey Transit from which he retired. During his retirement his intellectual curiosity was bolstered by community college fine arts courses, painting, history, travel, writing poetry and sharing stories with others. He was an avid researcher, completing an exhaustive genealogy culminating in a 300-page family memoir of his and his ancestors' lives.
Ed was married to Lana Browne for 42 wonderful years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Christopher (Aimee) of Belchertown, MA, Cynthia (Curtis) of Merida, Mexico, Jennifer (Walter) of Plano, TX, Peter of Saint Croix and stepchildren Suzanne (James) of Memphis, TN and Phillip (Michele) of Dillon, CO. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, a twin brother, Robert A. Browne and a sister, Ruth Greening.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him—a man of faith, a loving family member, a patriot and a passionate seeker of knowledge.
A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Rd, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Hobart, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's name to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
