Edward R. Hill's Obituary
Edward R. Hill, age 104, of Lewes Delaware passed away on February 8, 2010. Ed was born January 18th, 1906, 5th of ten children to Edward and Amanda Boone Hill, on Virginia Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. At the early age of eight Ed was the first lamplighter in the City of Rehoboth. He was also a life guard for the Rehoboth Beach Patrol.
Ed built a house and made a home with his wife Alberta "Bertie" Kimmey Hill at 12 Dover Street where they lived for 58 years.
Ed joined DP&L in February 1927 as a meter reader and house wireman and was later made a trouble and service man and became District Manager in April 1942. He was an active Ham Radio operator and has talked with people all over the world. he started the Diamond State Net which is still active today. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1992 and by all his siblings. Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hill lived a full and long life and will be rememberd as a man of honor, wisdom and integrity.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 19, 2010 at the 2 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
