Edward Harold Cox's Obituary
Edward Harold Cox, affectionately known as "Pop", age 93, of Georgetown, DE passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the Delaware Veterans Home, in Milford, DE. He was born on January 13, 1926 in Hockessin, DE, son of the late Charles Henry Cox and Margaret M. (Johnson) Cox.
Mr. Cox honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was a POW in Germany. Upon his safe return home he was awarded with a highly decorated Purple Heart. After his service, he made his lifelong career with the DuPont Corporation at the Edgewater Plant in Wilmington, DE where he worked as a Textile Lab Tech. In 1982 he retired after over 40 years of dedicated service. He was a past member of the Fairwinds Baptist Church in Bear, DE and most recently attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lewes, DE. Mr. Cox was an avid bowler which is how he met the love of his life, Georgie. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, and a good John Wayne movie. Most of all, Mr. Cox loved his grandkids who adored him, they cherished every moment spent together.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a son, Wallace Cox. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Georgie Rae Cox of Georgetown, DE; two sons, Harold Cox and his fiancé Janie of Myrtle Beach, SC and Tim Coldiron and his wife Sue of Elizabethtown, PA; three daughters: Lynda Haigh and her husband Joseph of New Castle, DE, Tammy Walls and her husband Michael of Georgetown, DE, and Tammy Monfiletto and her husband Jason of Newark, DE; twelve grandchildren: Matthew Cox, Ryan Cox, Rebecca Cox, Mindy Goretzke, Katy Beth Miller, Caleb Coldiron, Paul Cox, Jason Haigh, Kristen Ferencsik, David Williams, Tori DiGiacoma, and Savannah Monfiletto; and 19 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 21265 John J Williams Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow services at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Cox's name to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Boulevard, Milford, DE.
