Edna L. Eckert's Obituary
Mrs. Edna Lea (York) Eckert, age 96, of Lewes, DE passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Edgar York and Cary Gladys (Coogan) York.
Mrs. Eckert worked for the government during WWII. She was a mother and wife for many years and then proceeded to get her nursing license, later working for the Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. Upon her retirement to the Lewes, DE beach area Mrs. Eckert became involved in the local community. She spent countless hours volunteering at Beebe Hospital same day surgery department as well as their thrift shop.
Mrs. Eckert and her husband loved travelling together, taking many memorable trips across the country and cruising the oceans. Mrs. Eckert enjoyed quilting at the Cape Henlopen Senior Center and was an avid square dancer who enjoyed being a member of the Whirlways and Sussex Shores Senior Squares. However, her greatest joy was in caring for her family whether taking care of everyone healthy or ill. She will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Eckert is survived by a daughter, Christine DeMaio and her husband Dorian, a granddaughter, Lauren DeMaio, several nieces, a nephew and many other family members.
