Earl Wright Smith's Obituary
Earl Wright Smith age, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, DE for the past 10 years, formerly of Essex, MD for 50 years, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Covington, VA, on February 21, 1925, son of the late Earl M. and Bessie May (Deffinbaugh) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Earl Terry Smith.
Mr. Smith proudly served his country during WWII with U.S. Navy. He enjoyed a 38 year career as an electrician with Bethlehem Steel Co. Mr. Smith was a previous owner and partner of Rosedale Electric Company in Baltimore County, MD.
He was a lifetime Member of VFW Post #7447, former Member of the Essex Elks Lodge #1886 and Life Member of the Cape Henlopen ELks Lodge #2540. Mr. Smith was also a member of the Dizzy Pleasure Club in Dundalk, MD and American Legion Post #17 and Moose Lodge # 1814, both of Lewes.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Constance R. (Stevens) Smith of Rehoboth Beach; two sons: Christopher Michael Smith and his wife Mary F. of Burnsville, VA and James Patrick Smith of Baltimore, MD; two daughters: Shirley Ann Carpenter and Marie I. Beran, both of Baltimore, MD; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and long time friend and business partner, John Mizell of Milford, DE.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM on Tuesday and also on Monday, January 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be in Mr. Smith's honor may be made to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
