E. Marion Morris' Obituary
E. Marion (Drew) Morris passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at her residence after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Delbert S. Morris; her children: Sharon Day of Atlanta, GA and George Addor of Milton, DE; her grandchildren: Julie Laible of Duluth, GA, Christian, Victoria, Leah and David Addor all of Milton, DE; and three great-grandchildren: Brenden, Bethany and Rebekah Laible. She was predeceased by a younger brother who died in an auto accident.
Marion was born in Washington, DC in the old Sibley Hospital. Her father served with the U.S. Marine Corp in WW I and WW II. He married her mother, Anna Wimmel, who emigrated to the U.S.A from Badkissingen, Germany after WW I. She was the oldest of four children and took great pride in her father's service record of WW I. She wanted to be just like him.
Marion worked with the War Bond effort during WW II. Marion had been a volunteer at Beebe Medical Center for some years. Prior to that she was a Chaplain at St. James Episcopal Church in Potomac, MD, an adjunct Chaplain for Tunnell Cancer Center, and a member of the Christian Clown Ministry. Marion was also a member of the Diamond State Detachment #704 Ladies Auxiliary of the Marine Corp League.
She grew up in Washington, DC attending Calvert Catholic School for the first eight years and attended Central High of which she is still an alumni member. Her desire in WW II was to join the Marines but her father would not allow it. She met and married Del in February 1960 on Valentines Day. Always the hopeless romantic!
A Committal Service will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE on Friday, April 9, 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel beginning at 10:30 AM. Family and friends will gather at Conley's United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the interment for light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, Marion requested memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
