Douglas B. Sentman's Obituary
Douglas B. Sentman Sr., 66, of Lewes, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of June 29, 2014, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest G. Sentman, mother Dorothy B. Scheirer and step-father Gerald G. Scheirer.
Doug was born on April 1, 1948 and was a life-long resident of Lewes. He attended Lewes High School and exceeded in athletics both during school and post-graduation, in addition to playing in the percussion section of the school band. Doug joined the Army Reserves in 1966 and served for six years. He worked for Hajoca Corporation and Shore Distributors Incorporated until 1984 when he began his career as a salesman and manager for Penco Corp. He earned several awards for exceptional salesmanship until his retirement in 2005.
Doug was an intricate member of his community in a variety of ways. Besides working in numerous jobs which brought him close to his neighbors, he was an avid waterfowl sportsman, including sporting clay and trap shooting, fisherman and outdoorsman in general. Doug also greatly enjoyed softball and played on several teams in the area. One of his greatest passions was using his time to help others. Doug could often be found supporting Ducks Unlimited by selling tickets, raising funds and cooking for many of their events. He was active in a variety of charities, often behind the scene, and was held in high regard because of his willingness to help others without needing recognition. Many will remember Doug as traveling around town on any of his numerous ventures, often in one of his adored Jeeps. Above all, Doug loved and was dedicated to his friends and family; especially his grandchildren which he reveled in passing on a bit of his orneriness.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Jan; son Brian; daughter Shelley Perry and son-in-law Brant Perry; grandchildren Caroline and Rhett Perry; sister Debbie Spencer; several nieces and nephews; and many other dear family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday July 6, 2014 at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th Street, Lewes, DE. Interment will be private.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Saturday July 5, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961, Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE.
