Douglas Rodney Elliott's Obituary
Douglas Rodney Elliott, age 80, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away on Saturday, January 10th. He was born on May 10, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late James Norman Elliott and Suzanne Warrington Elliott.
Doug was a proud graduate of Claymont High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned his degree in English. During his time at Wesley College, he met the love of his life and best friend, Lois Anne Holland. Prior to their marriage, Doug was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He gave his time and fought hard for his country, which he was extremely proud to serve. He was able to apply his English background as a war correspondent and photographer during that time.
Upon his return, Doug married Lois on August 16, 1969. He worked in Communications and Marketing throughout his career. Doug and Lois were devoted and caring parents to their daughters, Amy and Katie. Doug found great joy in watching his daughters grow and in welcoming even more love into his life through his grandchildren. An avid writer, Doug was deeply proud of his patriotic service, which inspired him to contribute to the published book Vietnam Mailbag: Voices From the War.
Outside of work, Doug enjoyed the water throughout his life. He loved fishing and boating, woodworking, as well as music—especially the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett—reading, watching westerns, and spending time with family.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Lois Holland Elliott; his children, Amy Will, and Kathryn Hain (Katie); his brother, James Elliott (Jim); his sons-in-law, Kevin Will and Steven Hain; and his cherished grandchildren, Connor Williams, Jackson Hain, Ava Williams, Austin Hain, Abby Will, and Cooper Will.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, James Norman Elliott, and his mother, Suzanne Warrington Elliott.
Doug will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his deep love for his wife and family, his passion for the water and fishing, and his caring spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life honoring Doug will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, Delaware.
