Dorothy D. Barksdale's Obituary
Dot Barksdale, age 100 and 8 months, of Wilmington and Lewes, Delaware died at Harbor Health Care on Sunday, November 25, 2012. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 25, 1912.
In her 100 years, Dot was an energetic, fun loving, kind-spirited woman who worked hard at everything she did. Her favorite thing to do was dance. She was well loved by everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, she worked at Bancroft Textile Mill, DuPont, was Clerk of Court 10 and 12 for over 25 years, and retired as a Bailiff for Court 12, in New Castle County, DE. She was very active in the Democratic Party and was a key figure in helping get Joe Biden elected to his first public office. She was a member of the Elsmere Presbyterian Church, and the Democratic Party of Elsmere.
Her husband Bob, of 30 years died in 1978. Her second husband Len, of 24 years, died in 2004. Dot is survived by her daughter Debbie Dorris and her partner Karen Tomlinson; her two sisters: Betty Ludlow and Hazel Rowles; a nephew; and Len's immediate family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Debbie requests contributions be made to either Harbor Healthcare & Rehab Center, 301 Ocean View Blvd., Lewes, DE 19958 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
