Dorothea Abbott's Obituary
Dorothea Spence (Weaver) Abbott, 82 ,of New Castle, Delaware passed away at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware on February 3, 2007. Mrs. Abbott was born on January 6, 1925 in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Spence and Anna May (Weaver) Spence.
She graduated from Delaware School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Mrs. Abbott worked for the Delaware Division Hospital for several years and later worked for Dr. Thomas and Dr. Hershon's office in Richardson Park, Delaware. Retiring in 2000, after 54 years in the nursing field.
Mrs. Abbott was devoted to her family and her work. She enjoyed knitting; yard work and loved animals. She is predeceased by her husband, James Edward Abbott, Sr., November 2006. She is survived by sons, James E. Abbott, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Charlotte, NC, ; Joseph Wayne Abbott and wife Barbara of Milton, DE; Grandsons, James E. Abbott, III, and wife Jennifer of Lansdale, PA and Nicholas Ryan Gauger; Granddaughters, Rachel L. Hilbish and her husband David C. of Carrolton, GA; and Julie Ann Adams, Jamie Renee Gauger, Jenny Lynn McFadden and Great Grandchilden, Megan Emily Abbott; Caitlin Ashley Abbott; Dillon Isaacs Adams; Madison Olivia Adams; Brandon Joseph Kelly; Matthew Hilbish and Mark Hilbish. A service will be held at the Chapel of Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with entombment to follow. Pastor Carol Terry will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beebe Medical Center School of Nursing East Market Street Lewes, DE 19958.
