Doris June Meyer's Obituary
Doris J. Meyer (née Rosengren) passed away at the age of 97 in Seaford, DE, on November 19, 2025. Born on September 11, 1928, in Englewood, New Jersey, Doris was known for her warmth, good humor, and the genuine way she connected with people.
Doris was a lifelong resident of Tenafly, New Jersey, until she moved to Bridgeville, DE, in 2020 to be near her daughter. She loved living in Heritage Shores and even played Bocce at the age of 94.
Doris graduated from Trenton State Teacher’s College and spent her career as an elementary school teacher in New Milford, NJ. She cared deeply about her students and took pride in helping them grow. Outside the classroom, she was active in the Woman’s Club of Tenafly, where she devoted her time to local community causes.
Family was at the center of Doris’s life. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Brex (William) of Bridgeville, DE; her son, Warren Meyer (Angela); her grandson, Ryan Meyer of Long Island City, NY; and her granddaughter, Riesling Meyer Walker (Doug). She is also remembered by her nieces, Marjorie Rosengren Vanacore and Carol Rosengren Kuhr (Ron); her nephew, Carl Rosengren (Kathy); many relatives and cousins; and her close friends, Evelyn Rooney and Emily Parsells. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Meyer; her parents, Sid and Mable Rosengren; her brother, Sid Rosengren; and her niece, Judith Rosengren Garcia (Hugo).
Doris had a wide range of interests that brought her joy. She collected shells and often turned them into creative table displays. She traveled extensively—both abroad and throughout the United States—and documented those trips in more than 40 albums. She enjoyed fishing during her time in Florida and rarely missed a game involving her favorite football and baseball teams.
For more than fifty years, Doris was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Tenafly. She also volunteered over a thousand hours at Englewood Hospital and supported the Meals on Wheels program, offering steady help wherever she could.
Doris will be remembered for her generous spirit, her loyalty to the people she loved, and the countless ways she made life better for those around her.
