Doris Starkey McIlvain's Obituary
Doris Starkey McIlvain, age 84, of Bridgeville, DE passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, to her heavenly home. She was born October 6, 1928, the daughter of John and Clara Starkey of Harrington, DE.
Doris graduated from Harrington High School, Class of 1946. She worked at the DuPont Plant in Seaford, DE. as a cafeteria assistant for eleven years and later retired from Woodbridge High School with 23 years service working in the cafeteria as a cashier. She had also worked with Workman's catering service.
Doris was a member of the Union United Methodist Church for 62 years. She was also a member of the Bridgeville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1959 where she had served in the roles of assistant treasurer and treasure since 1966.
Doris was well loved in the community, never knew a stranger and everyone else came first with her. Cooking and gardening were two or her favorite pasttimes. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who loved doing for her family..
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her two brothers, two sisters and a foster brother. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Kenneth E. McIlvain; two daughters: Gail McIlvain Simpson and her husband Dr. David of Wilmington, DE and Faith Argo and her husband Ricky of Bridgeville, DE; one granddaughter; Risa Simpson: three nieces and eight nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Union United Methodist Church, 2 N Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. A Viewing will also be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville DE Interment will be immediately following at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood, DE.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Delaware Hospice and a special thanks to her caregiver, Bonnie Topolski from Shore Care of Delaware.
