Doris P Lally's Obituary
Doris P. Lally, 82 years of age, died of pancreatic cancer on 10/23/09 at
her home in Bay Colony in Dagsboro, DE. She was born in Orange, NJ on
September 26, 1927 and graduated from Orange High School and the Berkley
Secretarial School in East Orange, NJ. She married Richard Francis Lally at
Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in South Orange, NJ on September
10, 1949. Mrs. Lally was an Executive Secretary at Eastern Airlines in New
York City,
Newark, NJ and Atlanta, GA. While residing in Bethesda, MD, she was active
in civic affairs and was one of the founding members of Palisades Swimming
Pool Association. She was also active in the in the Sodality of Little
Flower Church where she was also a Brownie Leader. After raising her
children, she worked part time in real estate in Bethesda, MD for 10 years,
and did volunteer work at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DE. As a
result of her husband's US Government career, she had the opportunity to
travel extensively in the US and abroad, which she enjoyed.
She was a businesswoman and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, knitting and
needlepoint. She was a summer resident of Sea Colony East in Bethany Beach,
DE for many years and retired in Dagsboro, DE in 1994 where she resided in
Bay Colony. She was a parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany
Beach and a member of Cripple Creek Golf & Country Club. She also
participated in many local activities such as water aerobics and bridge.
Two and a half years after her husband Richard passed away, Doris Lally
suffered a massive stroke on July 1, 2006 which left her permanently
paralyzed on the entire right side. Though she was confined to a wheelchair
until her death, Doris embraced her hardship with grace, dignity, a positive
attitude, and, of course, her unforgettable smile.
She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Richard F. Lally, in
2004. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lally-Dittler of Ocean City,
MD and Joan E. Lally of Dagsboro, DE, and a brother, Stanley Yasko of Long
Beach, MS.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany
Beach, DE on Friday, 10/30/09 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Michael Darcy
officiating. A brief Interment service at Delaware Veterans Memorial
Cemetery South in Millsboro, DE will follow. All are welcome to a reception
after the
Funeral Mass and Interment Service to be held at the Bay Colony Community
Center, 29467 Colony Drive, Dagsboro, DE.
