Doris Mae Hendershot's Obituary
Doris “Dot” Mae (Murray) Hendershot, 74, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at home on December 12th after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1942, daughter of the late Edward and Emily (Kress) Murray.
Doris graduated from Ferndale HS as a member of the class of 1960 and went on to receive a B.S. Art Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). She married Alec Hendershot on November 29, 1970; they were married 46 years.
Doris loved working with beauty in all forms - working at Hershey Gardens, the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art during her favorite exhibitions, Johannes Vermeer and Vincent van Gogh, and at Goodwin House, demonstrating her passion for the arts by teaching various forms to the Center’s residents. She was a very talented painter, loved traveling, skiing (although heights were never her favorite part), and walking (much faster than her friends and family).
She is survived by her beloved husband Alec Hendershot; her daughter Lea Galvin and her husband Kevin; and many other family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 16th at 7:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Doris' memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
